Three Things to Have in Mind When Choosing O-Ring Cord
Dichtomatik America is dedicated to providing the widest possible selection of sealing products and solutions, while also being able to give expert advice on any challenges that you might be facing. That extends from high-level custom engineered solutions, to choosing the right o-ring cord for your spliced o-rings.
With all sealing products, selecting the right base materials is key. They need to be able to stand up to the demands put on them, without any negative interactions from chemicals, pressure, heat, or other elements.
If you need o-ring cord, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Three Key Points When Choosing O-Ring Cord for Spliced O-Rings
- Is splicing the right solution?
First and most importantly, remember that spliced o-rings will almost always be somewhat weaker than custom-molded o-rings which are produced intact. There are advantages to spliced solutions in certain situations, such as low-volume custom orders, but always keep their limitations in mind.
In many cases, it’s going to be better to go with off-the-shelf products, if that’s feasible, or use fully molded all-in-one o-rings.
- Materials interactions
This is the key issue when ordering o-ring cord or any other kind of sealing product. Always know what materials and environments your o-rings will be coming into contact with. This will help your o-ring supplier choose the right materials for the job, and prevent harmful interactions that can weaken or destroy your seals.
- Levels of QC
If you’re ordering spliced O-rings, quality control is a major issue. Many vulcanization processes tend to create somewhat inconsistent results, with seals that don’t quite line up. This may not be an issue, but if it is, you need a supplier who will inspect every o-ring produced to ensure it’s up to your specifications.
